I'll respond to your last post. If ANet could magically hit a button, and everything was perfect? Yeah, it would be great. However, there's far more important things that I care about than making Maguuma drop ectos.
And yet you've offered no constructive ideas to the contrary. You've basically decided to hold your breath until everyone agrees with you. As for the more important things, what is the likelihood they'll be addressed? For that matter the likelihood of my idea? Even if its a snowball's chance in hell, you can't argue that the idea has merit and is needed, as others have show with their drop stories.

As for barren outposts being repopulated? You are just absolutely naive if you think that is even remotely true.
How is it naive? If you agree that people are reward motivated, then balancing rewards in all areas means people that would like to play elsewhere other than the UW but can't lure themselves away from ecto drops, could finally break their addiction.

If on the other hand you believe that people are not reward motivated, and that they only play areas they want to, then nothing ANet could do would change the state of the game, as those barren areas are that way due to player choice.

The bottom line is, whether ANet makes a change or not, it can only be a positive change for the community at large, regardless of how YOU play.

You greatly overestimate rewards in this game tbh

Do you REALLY think 95% of the game is empty because "rewards suck"? Do you really think that's what it is?

LOL!

Now I see where the disconnect is. No, I don't think the lack of players in the whole game is a result of bad rewards, although it may have some small overall effect. The game needs fresh blood and ideas if it is to attract a larger playerbase. Or like Diablo 2 and Starcraft, with sequels on the horizon many have gone back to playing to "set the tone."

What I've tried to explain is that for the current population of GW, the lack of decent rewards throughout most of the game discourages those who might otherwise play in non-elite areas from doing so, instead spending their gaming time in "profitable" areas such as UW and DoA.

As I've said, if ANet scales up the reward balance such that other areas are AS profitable on a per unit time basis as the exclusively popular areas, that it will encourage players both old and new to play more of the game.

And its not even that difficult of a fix! Tweaking a few numbers in the loot system, or dropping loot scaling entirely is much easier than spending six months on a skill balance that doesn't even deliver what was promised.

After this I'm done arguing with you. I've laid out my points concisely and logically, and if you still insist on just being obstinate, then there is no point.

This is just simply wrong.

I have never once, in my entire history of playing GLB, heard someone say "Well, I really want to do the Frost Gate mission, but the rewards aren't good enough compared to DoA".

Never, not a single time. Has anyone? Anyone (besides Kaleban because we know what his answer will be) reading this thread heard guildies bummed out because they wanted to do mid-game stuff but it wasn't "rewarding" enough?

People don't want to do mid-game stuff because it is boring as f*ck, not because they don't have a chance of an ecto.

KK, finished Legendary skill hunter today. Bet you'er all just itching for a big list of all the various goodies I got. OK, with no further delay, here is the list of greens, golds and other rare items I got from the bosses I killed in Tyria, Cantha and Elona:

1. Green | Shield | Churkeh's Defiance.

What do you think? Impressive list eh?!

Nope. There is absolutely nothing wrong or deterring about the general state of loot drops throughout the 3 continents of the Guild Wars universe. With drops like those, I can't wait to get back to the keyboard to get stuck in, and FARM MY GUTS OUT!

Yep. That's what I'm gonna do now. I've got my title, and my Rainbow Phoenix and I'm gonna farm til my fingers bleed, but I'm sure I'll take time out here and there to go play just for the fun of it, cause that's just Cool For Cats.

Turbo.

Must have been difficult doing Legendary Skill Hunter without max weapons or armor.

Wow. Just wow. You're certainly a brain aren't you. Weapon was a green. I got it farming. Armor was AWESOME!!! And your point is? I'ma ignore you now and go back and farm all the stuff you don't care about. Because I do.

Cheers.

I was merely compenting how you claimed you killed every boss in the game, and the only thing that dropped was a shield.

I mean, there's no way you could have afforded max armor with that, let alone a rune or a max damage weapon.

Or were you expecting fountains of ectos to fly out of the bosses asses? I'm just trying to make sense of what you are saying, tbh.

In fact, wouldn't the fact that you killed all of the bosses in the game, willingly, go to show that Failban's premise of "players only play content that drops lots of ectos" is completely false?

That was not his point. Never was. Witty insults using his name don't make that any less true either.

There was reward in it that I did all that grind for, sure. A rainbow Phoenix that you can't buy. Would I have gone to 95% of those areas for any other reason? NO F$#$#^ WAY!

See, I'd rather go to places where I can have fun whilst making a profit. For me personally, unless it's a rare occasion I get to play with my Guild, if fun and profit aren't both there, then neither am I. Doesn't make any sense.

If I wanted to play a game that was fun, but didn't have anything upgradeable or any other reason for playing other than fun, it'd be Day of Defeat, and I'd never look sideways at GW ever again.

Wait...

So you have no desire to go to mid-game places. Why?

Now, I know you have your hand way down Failbans pants because, well, you want more ectos...but try to think for a second. Is the only reason that you don't like doing those places because you don't get stacks of ectos, or is the reason you don't like doing those places because they are really f'ing boring?

Would you rather ANet spends time making ectos drop in Maguuma, or would you prefer ANet takes the time to actually make Maguuma fun without having to dangle an ecto-encrusted carrot in front of you?

Making ectos drop throughout the game is the same as forcing the triangle block through the square hole. Will it work? Possibly, but it is ass backwards and completely missing the point.

I like ecto, but the fact they don't drop in Maguuma etc, doesn't keep me away from there. The fact that nothing worth having drops there is what keeps me away.

If you spent less time trying to insert your single gun theory of "Pew-pew! More Ectoze!!" into everyones line of thought, perhaps you'd be better able to read what they actually are saying.

I call troll. Same as last time u got yourself banned. Rofl, nice try. I suppose it's true that leopards never do change their spots, do they?

Anyone with a brain got anything intelligent to say?
Yes, I'm obviously trolling because I think the game needs more than ectos dropping everywhere.

PS: Nothing worth having drops anywhere. Nothing does any more damage or has any more armor than collector items.

I don't see how such an obviously wrong conclusion (you can simply upgrade items, or eventually buy them if maxed out gear did not drop) contributes to this discussion...

Is life so terrible an unfulfilling in your real world that you have to resort to this? What a waste of time and life. I'll be bowling, playing golf, tennis, raquet ball, swimming, lying on the sandy beach with a beautiful girl/woman drinking brewskie's and basking in the sun until dark and then and then and then......well I can't tell you then because mommy's would cry to Guru admin's that this person hurt her babies wittle mind. )

I'm married with 4 kids...I think if I were to do any of those things, I'd no longer be married, and I'd prolly lose the kids into the bargain...

At least farming ToPK doesn't take hours of unbroken concentration, because getting leg skill hunter damn near got me castrated...

And then you wake up at the age of 90, the beautiful girl next to you can use her breasts for sharpening knives, your skin is wrinkled and you can't lie on the sun anymore due to the risk of stroking and you realize you've wasted your life as much as the person who played computer games.

Who cares about the road, if the end is the same for everyone in 9 out of 10 cases? Others end even earlier.

You presume far too much of people you've never met. I'm a legally certified mentally-disturbed type, and will be heavily medicated for the rest of my life because of it. My life story wouldn't be out of place in a bestselling thriller, or a testimonial on a victims of pedophiles and child-abusers web page.

-However-

That has nothing whatsoever to do with GW apart from the fact that it is one of the few places that I can find mental solace, and yes the reason I farm alone so much is that I'm really just not good to be around most of the time, and when I am, there's no telling how long it will last. I really hate airing dirty laundry at any rate, so without any further ado, let's get back to the topic, if we may.

Turbo.

Notice how you're comparing what's a more rewarding end result (stories for your children) and picking the more personally rewarding of the two?

Thanks for proving my point.

Oh and one more thing @Yelling but not Listening, this discussion has never been about ectos, that was simply one easy example, that simpletons tend to focus on. I'm not sure how you can say HM Maguuma or Crystal Desert is boring compared to UW, the gameplay is exactly the same. The only differences boil down to environmental graphics (what is prettier) and drops.

So what you're saying is its more fun to play in the same greenish black area where good stuff drops, as opposed to playing in multi-colored pretty areas where shit drops. So apart from the subjective artistic preferences of players, you're agreeing that the only motivator is the drops.

You need to get it through your thick skull, the gameplay is the same EVERYWHERE, whats different is the environment and loot. Your whole argument is moot anyways, since the inception of Zaishen missions that cause dead outposts to be active again every couple of months completely disproves your theory. But of course you'll come up with some fingers-in-your-ears argument... can't wait.
